U.S. President Donald Trump Apologizes for the U.S.

2018-07-16 – Президент США Дональд Трамп теперь извинился за ответственность Америки в плохих отношениях с Россией.

U.S. President Donald Trump has now apologized for America’s responsibility in poor relations with Russia.

I thought Republicans didn’t apologize for America. That was the title of GOP candidate Mitt Romney’s book going into the 2012 election. He called it: “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness.”

I have to be honest. I thought the no-apology stance was a little bonkers. If you make a mistake, apologize, and move one. I don’t think that it is helpful to dig in your heels. Apologies lay the groundwork for improving relations.

But that’s not what’s happening between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Their meeting today was not a meeting of equals, but rather between a supplicant (Trump) and his master (Putin). The supplicant is taking the fall.

I’m okay with Trump taking the fall, but not the United States. As a person, Donald Trump has a great deal to apologize for. But he needs to direct his apologies to the American people, not to Vladimir Putin. That’s not going to happen until Trump sees the American people as having power over him.

Where are all the Republicans who formerly thought that apologies are bad? Didn’t they used to say that apologies are tantamount to treason?

  1. Show me round your snow-peaked mountains way down south
Take me to your daddy’s farm
Let me hear your balalaikas ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm
    I’m back in the U.S.S.R
You don’t know how lucky you are boys
    Back in the U.S.S.R.
