2017-11-02 – Whenever a news story seems unflattering to him or his administration, President Trump tweets “#FakeNews.” Commentators have spilled a lot of e-ink on this subject. But I have a question for @realDonaldTrump:
If I were going to make up a #FakeNews story, why would it be about some sordid detail in the life or mind of Donald J. Trump. If I were going to write a #FakeNews story, it wouldn’t be about Donald Trump at all. I would entirely banish @realDonaldTrump from my #FakeWorld and my #FakeNews stories would be more like these #FakeHeadlines:

If I were writing #FakeNews, why would I bother with Donald Trump? It’s reality that compels it.
But reality shouldn’t stop us from thinking about it.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
A great line, one of Lennon’s best: You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one. When taken out of the context of the song, the line can acquire other, more general shades of meaning.
