2017-01-20 – Have we hit rock bottom?

Hope so. Recovering alcoholics say you have to hit rock bottom before you can begin to recover. They also say that you have to admit the problem before you can overcome it.

So I admit that Donald J. Trump is my president.

Many of my compatriots are saying today: #NotMyPresident. But denial of facts is one of the things we decry in the new administration. I’m not going to join with that. As Daniel Patrick Moynihan is quoted saying: “You are entitled to your opinion. But you are not entitled to your own facts.”

I’ve disagreed with many presidents in my life. Some wanted to send me off to war. Some wanted to destroy labor rights. Some failed to protect us from foreign attack. Some stole elections. You get the picture. Lousy presidents are not “unprecedented.” Donald Trump may have upped the ante, but it’s the same game.

Sad.

And the way to recovery is to see the problem clearly.
