2015-12-25 – Eighty-five percent of all pumpkin eaten in the United States apparently comes from Illinois. To celebrate this fact, the State of Illinois has declared pumpkin pie to be the state pie—starting in 2016.
Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Wasn’t that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?
The king was in his counting house,
Counting out his money;
The queen was in the parlor,
Eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird
And snipped off her nose.
That’s all I have to say today. For those eating pumpkin pie tomorrow—and those not—have a Merry Christmas. If you don’t celebrate Christmas, have a Fabulous Friday.
And think about how much richer we will be in Illinois come the new year knowing that pumpkin is our state pie!
