When Saving Lives Becomes More Important than Saying F*ck You

2015-11-29 – They like to tell you that the end of days is upon us. The signs are anger and strife—so they say. I don’t buy it. I don’t really believe in an end of days. We’re each going to take our leave separately, just as we came in. But if there is an end of days, it won’t come in anger and strife. Rather, it will come when saving lives becomes more important than saying f*ck you.

We all love to say f*ck you.

And that’s the barrier, sad to say. That’s what our politics is about, both inside the country and out. No one is really trying to accomplish anything. They just want to say bad things about their so-called adversaries.

I say so-called adversaries because, if you aren’t working things out with them, you are partners with them in the f*ck-you chorus. Nothing more.

Republicans and Democrats. Israelis and Palestinians. Pro-life and pro-choice. Sunni and Shia.

It doesn’t matter whether you are right or wrong because, for the most part, you accomplish nothing.

But it feels good to say f*ck you, and that’s all that matters.

F*ck you.

There’s no end in sight.

“Fixing A Hole” by Paul McCartney

I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go

I’m filling the cracks that ran through the door
And kept my mind from wandering
Where it will go

And it really doesn’t matter if
I’m wrong I’m right
Where I belong I’m right
Where I belong
See the people standing there
Who disagree and never win
And wonder why they don’t get in my door

I’m painting my room in a colorful way
And when my mind is wandering
There I will go
Ooh ooh ooh ah ah
Hey, hey, hey, hey

And it really doesn’t matter if
I’m wrong I’m right
Where I belong I’m right
Where I belong
Silly people run around
They worry me and never ask me
Why they don’t get past my door

I’m taking the time for a number of things
That weren’t important yesterday
And I still go
Ooh ooh ooh ah ah

I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in
Stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go oh
Where it will go oh

I’m fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go (fade out)
