2015-10-08 – What do you say to a child who is crying over some minor disaster? “It’ll be okay. It’s not the end of the world.”

When you see a comfy person bemoaning their not-perfect bliss, what do we say? “Get over it. It’s not the end of the world.”

But if you follow the snickering on the Internet, you know that some folks believed that yesterday was going to be the end of the world. The Internet, of course, knew better. The world was not coming to an end. How silly of you to think so!

For some people, however, the world did come to an end yesterday. And the Internet snickered.

The gods don’t bring the end for all of us at once. The apocalypse is not wholesale. The gods dole out life’s cruelties on a piecemeal basis. You and I did not experience the end of the world. But some people lost their homes. Some people were taken into slavery or raped. Some people were murdered or saw loved ones murdered. Their worlds came to an end.

Sorry to bring you down. It’s much more satisfying to make fun of people you disagree with.
