2014-03-18 – There’s an old saying: “It never rains but it pours.” When bad things happen, supposedly, they happen all at once. I’m feeling a bit like that right now and the feeling was confirmed when I looked the saying up online and it came with an ad for urinary catheter supplies.
Now, I am not here to complain. Okay, what’s with the urinary catheter ad? But shit happens. My life is really not that bad. Shit happens randomly, so that means you can go long stretches without a care in the world. It also means that, once in a while, shit clusters.
And when that happens, you need to watch out. Because then you start looking for bad things to—I don’t know—complete the set? This is called confirmation bias. You expect bad news, so you start seeing more and more of it.
It is possible, however, to run this gambit in reverse. It is possible to start paying attention to nice things that happen in your life. Start looking for little things to brighten up your day.
Uh oh. I feel a song coming on.
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you’ll never need urinary incontinence supplies
You’ll never need urinary incontinence supplies.
